The secret ballot is the cornerstone of American democracy. Unfortunately, Congress will soon consider the so-called Employee Free Choice Act; a card check bill that threatens to deprive American workers of their right to a secret ballot when deciding whether to join a union, exposing employees to intimidation, threats and coercion in the organizing process.

Protect Worker Rights!

I am writing to urge you to protect American workers and oppose the so-called Employee Free Choice Act (H.R. 1409) and any other attempts at "compromise" legislation that would be equally damaging.

Stripping employees of their right to secret ballot elections, as the Employee Free Choice Act proposes, will expose employees to intimidation, threats and coercion in the organizing process.

Compromise in the form of "quickie" elections or mail-in ballots are equally dangerous, giving professional union organizers the upper-hand in coercing workers to join a labor union by denying employees their rights to an education from both management and labor.

Workers deserve the right to choose whether to join a labor union without giving up their privacy and anonymity or being rushed by impractical timelines.

I urge you to oppose eliminating secret ballot elections and any proposal being put forth that would be just as a harmful to America’s workers.

Furthermore,  this bill would force employees and employers into compulsory, binding arbitration as part of the collective bargaining process.  Such a process would introduce discord and disharmony into workplaces that have flourished under existing labor rules.

A system of binding arbitration would deny business owners an effective voice in managing their operations, while robbing unionized employees of the opportunity to vote on new contracts.  In other words, the wishes of both employees and employers would be given no consideration.

Please help defend American workers from intimidation, threats, misinformation and coercion by those seeking to end secret ballot elections in favor of public union membership votes.

I urge you to oppose the Employee Free Choice Act and any other so-called "compromise" legislation that would be just as harmful to American workers.
